The Best 5 Places to Workout for Free During the Coronavirus

COVID 19, eh? I’m going with a WOW. That is all.

I’ve got some high riskers in my circle so I won’t be attending any commercial gyms for the foreseeable. It doesn’t mean I won’t still be training, just means I’ll be training elsewhere.

Here are a few free places you can train:

At Home

Other than your usual bills, it doesn’t cost you anything to train in your home.

You don’t have to jump around your living to make significant progress with your fitness and gainz, don’t believe the influencer hype :-P

I’m playing, at a time like I think we all need to be moving and enjoying something. Just remember no one is reinventing the wheel here, just trying to get a proactive and helpful message across.

As for space, the reality is, you would only need a square space as long as your body and you’re good to go.

If you have the option, I’d suggest leaving exercise away from your bedroom and make sure your bedroom is limited to a good nights sleep only and other stuff that aids a good nights sleep.

The living room is probably your best bet. Move the coffee table out of the way and put a video on your tv, phone or tablet and crack on.

Run/Walk/Run

The streets are emptying, so go for a run. It doesn’t have to be a fast run if you’re just starting out and haven’t been out for a run for a long time.

I advise you to start with some basic running drills before you run (see my friend: run_technique_coach on Instagram) and do lots and lots of little steps and going a slower pace.

Even a walk, just for your sanity, there’s nothing like a walk to clear your that traffic jam in your head. I usually go for a walk when I wanna listen to a podcast or audiobook, there’s 1000’s of recourses out there so use this time to learn. A good quote I like to live by is: “if you’re not earning, you need to be learning”.

Parks & Athletic tracks

Some trainers are still taking their clients and groups outside to train in parks. I’m not saying you won’t be at risk of picking up the virus, but according to the WHO guidelines, this is certainly a smaller risk than being in a busy gym.

Places like Battersea Park and Clapham Common are great for times like this if pull-ups, dips and generally mastering some bodyweight training is what you’ve thought about for a bit, but put it to the side. Both have outdoor gyms. Just take your hand wash with you!

If you know of any others, feel free to message me and I’ll add them to the list.

Cycle

Get on your bike and go for a ride. There are some decent rides you can do in London. Take Richmond park, for example, a stunning place to be. It’s a place you wouldn’t expect to see in London. Especially right next to the tower blocks from the estate next to it (where I grew up, so I’m allowed to dig at it ;-) ).

If you, like me, don’t have a bike, grab a Santander bike for £2 (not free, but certainly isn’t breaking the bank is it?) and enjoy the day.

Use this time to master things you’ve slacked in previously. I’ll do another blog post about things to master, keep an eye out!

Remember, this is the situation we’ve been given so let’s not mope around, let’s adapt and put things in action to make the best out of it.

Stay clean, stay active!
